Microsoft refreshes Surface Laptop, Surface Book 2 lineup ahead of India launch

Microsoft may have been a little reluctant in bringing all of its Surface range of devices to India, but, interestingly its most powerful Surface Book yet, aka the Surface Book 2, is coming to the country. The Surface Book 2 will be launching in 17 more countries including in India this year, although a definite time-frame hasn't been revealed by the company. Ahead of launch, Microsoft has refreshed the Surface Book 2, introducing a new 128GB storage version that will cost buyers $1199 which roughly translates to Rs 77,000.
The new $1199 Surface Book 2 will come with a 13.5-inch screen and an Intel Core i5 processor with 8GB RAM. Previously, the same model came with 256GB storage and cost $1499 which roughly translates to Rs 96,000. This means, the Surface Book 2 lineup, will now start at $300 less which should make more sense in markets like India where generally these things cost a bomb.
The Surface Book 2 was launched around October last year alongside the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Under the hood, it packs in an 8th Gen Intel Core processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 and 1060 discrete graphic. Microsoft, in fact, claims that the Surface Book 2 is five times more powerful that the original Surface Book and twice as powerful as Apple's MacBook Pro.
The Surface Book 2 is offered in two sizes: a 13.5-inch variant with a 3000x2000 pixel resolution, and a 15-inch option with a 3240x2160 pixel resolution. The screens are even detachable so you can use them as a tablet. Both the variants have an aspect ratio of 3:2 and Microsoft claims 17 hours of video playback, which is 70 per cent more than what the MacBook Pro offers. As a tablet alone, Microsoft promises up to 5 hours of battery life on the Surface Book 2.
Connectivity options include: two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one USB Type-C port, a full-size SD card reader, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1 LE. It comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.
Interestingly, Microsoft has also refreshed its Surface Laptop, that will now start at $799 which roughly translates to Rs 52,000. This is $200 less than its initial starting price of $799 and will give you an Intel Core m3 processor with Intel HD Graphics 615, 4GB RAM and 128GB storage.
The Surface Laptop, which was launched in May last year, comes with a 13.5-inch PixelSense display with 3:2 aspect ratio and up to 16GB RAM and up to 512GB SSD. The Surface Laptop is Microsoft's attempt to show off its education-centric Windows 10 S and possibly take on Apple's MacBook along the way. Microsoft has no plans of bringing it to India for now though.
