Huawei working on facial recognition technology 10 times more accurate than Apple's Face ID

With Oppo set to launch a phone that looks like an iPhone X, Huawei too seems to be taking inspiration from Apple in their own way. At the AI focused Honor V10's launch event in China, the company teased their own facial recognition technology, which is said to be ten times more accurate than Apple's FaceID.
The facial recognition tech, which is meant to take Apple's TrueDepth face detection system head on, uses a combination of infrared and a projector to create a 3D map of your face. Where things get things interesting is the fact that this 3D sensor captures 300,000 data points - ten times more than what iPhone X's FaceID captures.
The caveat? The technology in its current state takes 10 seconds to create the 3D model. Huawei claims that this technology is not only secure enough for payments but is also extremely fast. When perfected, Huawei claims it will take just 400 milliseconds to unlock the phone. It is not known at the moment exactly when Huawei plans to ship this technology in any phone. This announcement was just meant to show to the world that they are working on a facial recognition tech which is superior to the one used by Apple.

Huawei's Animojis

Huawei also showcased a not so unique utilisation of this technology in the form of 3D emojis. If that sounds familiar, they are almost exactly the same as Apple's Animojis - which are animated emojis that mimic your facial expressions live as you speak.
Huawei claims that its animated emjois are more advanced than Apple's Animojis - as apart from mimicking facial expressions, they can even track the movement of your tongue. The panda bear showcases in the demo also seemed to have a lot more detail than Apple's Animoji characters.
