German pilots refuse to deport refugees
Pilots in Germany, which is one of the top ten refugee hosting nations, had refused to fly refugees to their country of origin on over 200 occasions.
According to local media reports, pilots refused to deport refugees to Afghanistan despite, surprisingly, it being termed as a "safe country of origin" in some cases.
Most of the refusals came from Germany's flagship carrier Lufthansa and its sister-airline Eurowings. The pilots of the two airlines refused to fly 85 times this year for this reason.
According to UNHCR's latest report, Germany, in 2016, gave shelter to most number of refugees seeking shelter in Europe. Over 300,000 took shelter in the country last year.
