Google Maps helps reunite 7-year old girl with family after she went missing from Delhi

technology comes to rescue once again. And this time to reunite a lost child with her family. It is on Wednesday last week that a 7-year old girl went missing from a wedding function in Delhi. But, Google Maps helped the police to locate her village and hand over the girl back to her family. This happened with the help of the satellite images that Maps displayed, based on the description that the child narrated about her village.
The incident took place on Wednesday night, November 29 after the 7-year old went missing from the marriage function. The girl was reportedly in the city to attend a family wedding ceremony in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar. She basically originates from a village 44km from Meerut and was accompanied by her parents.
She reportedly managed to come out of the venue and lost her way, and all of it happened without her parents or any of the family members' notice. Nobody knew where did she suddenly vanish. The girl after mistakenly leaving the wedding venue walked towards some direction which she had absolutely no clue about.
Fortunately, before someone else could notice the girl, she was spotted by a police constable named Vikram -- who then took her to the Malviya Nagar police station and handed over to the cops.

Later the police officials started asking the girl question about her family, parent's name, or the village she belonged to. But unfortunately, she couldn't specifically answer them all. Obviously because she was too small to know about what's happening around her. With that, things started to get a little difficult for the police to figure out the information about the girl. "She was unable to tell us about her village and just said that she had come to a wedding with her parents," said DCP of South Delhi, Romil Baaniya.
But then, that's when Google Maps came to their rescue. The police then asked the girl questions like -- how long did she take to reach Delhi from her village. With the vague glimpses that the girl remembered she said that she took around 4 hours to reach Delhi. The police then chalked out a perimeter and listed the names of the places around Delhi with all major cities and towns within that distance being marked out using Google Maps. The same information was then shared with respective police stations.
The child then told the cops about the places she had seen during her journey to Delhi. Hearing all of that the police initially figured out that the girl had probably come either from Uttarakhand or Western UP. However, with further information coming in from the girl, the officials pointed out that Meerut could be the city from where the girl had boarded the bus for Delhi.
The police officials then switched to Google Maps and zeroed in on Meerut's map. The girl then told the cops that there is a lake in her village. After zeroing in on Meerut, cops used Google Maps to locate all villages which had a lake nearby. Later, a list of villages with the matching description was noted and the head or Sarpanch of all these villages were contacted.
The cops, finally managed to find the girl's village -- which was Kol, 44 km from Meerut, with the help of satellite images provided by Google Maps and handed over the girl to her family only after confirming the child's details with the head of the village or Sarpanch.
