Meet Mana Mandelkar, Madhya Pradesh's karate expert who trains over 300 girls in self-defence

Mana Mandelkar, a young girl from Madhya Pradesh, teaches karate to over 300 women. This is her inspiring story.
In this age of women empowerment, women can be seen stepping up and fighting for their rights and choices. What makes Mana Mandelkar different, however, is her urge to empower other women as well.
Mandelkar is a young girl from Alampur, Madhya Pradesh. She is also known as the 'karate girl' of the village, as she is a karate expert and passes the expertise to the other women.
"When I tried to come out of my village, I faced so many problems and thought of learning something which can help me. Karate is the only game that teaches self defence," said Mandelkar in an interview to India Today.
She is currently training over 300 girls in her village for self-defence.

Before learning Karate, I was quite afraid to move out of the house.  Since I started learning karate, I feel confident to go anywhere," said one of Mandelkar's students.
What made her take the initiative was her own struggle for independence. Despite being asked to get married like any other girl, she chose her own path of freedom.
Mandelkar now aims at meeting Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and work on fighting sexual harassment against women. She already has a model prepared for the same and wants to implement it with the government's help.
