Israel launches missiles at Syrian military base

Israel has launched missiles at a military installation outside the Syrian capital Damascus.
Two missiles were intercepted in response.
The "blatant assault" led to material losses at the site in the countryside around the capital, the Syrian state media reported.
The Israeli military has not confirmed if it carried out the strike.
The missile attack was likely targeted at several government military bases in Al Kiswah on the southwest outskirts of Damascus, destroying 'an arms depot,' reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Earlier, in November, the Israel Defense Forces shot down a drone over the Syrian Golan Heights.
Israel has long warned that Iran is trying to establish a permanent presence in Syria.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said often that Israel will not allow Iran to establish a permanent presence in Syria.
Israel has conducted dozens of strikes in Syria in an effort to defend its objectives, primarily against regime targets.
