What's hot, what's not

THE FOURTH MEAL
Goodbye breakfast, lunch and dinner, hello fourth meal. Yes, more and more people are busy adjusting their eating schedules to suit their busy lives: be it a healthy snack, a light one between lunch and dinner or an energy-boosting salad mid-afternoon.
DON'T WANT TO EAT MEAT
Go for algae. It's the hottest plant-based meat substitute of the moment. It's also the ultimate source of omega-3 fatty acids and amino acids, essential in our diet. A nearly untapped resource found in both freshwater and marine aquatic systems, it can apparently solve the planet's impending food crisis.
THE ALT-SWEETS
With sugar topping the list of dietary watch-outs, there's a hunt for alternative sweet flavours with lower glycemic impact. Syrups made from dates, sorghum (jowar), yacon (a sweet potato-like root vegetable) and the zero-calorie monk fruit are good substitutes.
  • Date syrup is sweeter than granulated sugar, but less sweet than honey.
  • Sweet sorghum is the world's fifth largest grain after rice, corn, wheat and barley.
  • The syrup from yacon root may also help you lose weight.
  • Used to make medicinal teas, monk fruit sweeteners are made from the fruit's extract.
ATHLEISURE

A trend in fashion in which clothing designed for workouts and other athletic activities is worn in other settings such as at the workplace, school, or at other casual or social occasions: from yoga pants, tights and leggings that "look like athletic wear".

Move over fitness. Mental health has been at the forefront of the health world over the last couple of years-stress, anxiety, depression to any other issue--and companies are cashing in on this. Mind trackers help monitor our breathing patterns, sleep issues to see how stressed we may be feeling.
TRY STANDING
People with desk jobs are much more likely to die younger than those who have active jobs. That's what scientists are telling us. Hence, the rise of the standing desk as part of office health and wellness furniture.
A GYM FOR NAPPING
Gyms where you can nap for 45 minutes amidst atmospheric sounds and ambient temperatures. Apparently, it helps burn more calories.
ACTIVATED CHARCOAL

We are being asked to incorporate activated charcoal into our daily life-from food to tooth polish-as it can help remove toxins from the body. Activated charcoal is made by carbonising coconut shells and then processing the ash with hot air.
